The Family Ties Program provides guidance, education and support for adoptive, kinship (family members parenting young relatives) and foster families with children ages 2-18 through monthly group meetings, one-on-one support, educational opportunities and social activities. The program focuses on strengthening families, nurturing resiliency and building social connections that positively impact the overall health and well-being of the entire family. During monthly meetings, the parent group, youth group (ages 11-18) and childcare (ages 2-10) run concurrently.

Parent Group Topic: What’s Current in the Adoption and Kinship World? This Parent Café led by the Parent Advisory Team members who attended the NACAC Conference-North American Council on Adoptable Children, share their conference experience and how their lessons learned can be implemented as the group begins planning topics for next year.

Youth Group (ages 11-18) Topic: “What’s Going On?” (Social Awareness) Youth will develop an awareness of empathy skills and how they relate to continuing positive relationships with others. Youth will practice perspective taking and develop a respect for the unique experiences of others. These skills can be applied to those in the home as well as in the community to strengthen healthy interactions with others.
