 eland’s Family Ties Parent and Youth Group provides all adoptive\, kinship
 \, and foster parents and their children ages 2-18 the opportunity to meet
 \, share their experiences and learn from each other and featured presente
 rs. \n\nWhen: Thursday\, June 11\, 2020\, from 6-8 pm\nWhere: Virtual Pres
 entation using Google Meet\n\nParent Group Topic: Roots of Behavior - What
  is My Child Trying to Communicate? \nWe will begin with understanding how
  early development and experiences provide the foundation for behavior and
  discuss several risk factors that impact development\, attachment\, and w
 ays to build healthy attachments after placement. We will discuss several 
 attachment-deflecting behaviors with ways to support a child's emotional n
 eeds in a trauma-informed manner. We will also work through examples of wa
 ys a child's trauma history impacts developmental age. As parents\, our mi
 ndset is everything. Understanding that our child is using behavior to sho
 w us what they can't express with words helps us view behavioral meltdowns
  as an opportunity to build trust\, help our child feel safe\, teach self-
 regulation and healthy coping skills\, and build a deeper connection.  \n
 \nFacilitated by: Ty Cliffel\, LPC\, NCC earned a Master of Arts in Counse
 ling Psychology from Ball State University. She is an LPC\, National Certi
 fied Counselor\, and Licensed Child Placing Agency Administrator. She has 
 served children and families in a variety of settings including residentia
 l treatment\, group homes\, and schools. She has also supervised case mana
 gement services in foster care\, adoption\, and kinship services. Most rec
 ently\, Ty supervised the recruitment and training of foster and adoptive 
 parents\, conducted home studies\, and provided support services throughou
 t the placement process at The Settlement Home for Children in Austin\, Te
 xas where she lived for 10 years. She recently moved back to Cleveland and
  is a TBRI Practitioner and Pathways to Permanence 2 Facilitator. Ty is an
  adoptee who has been in reunion with her birth family for 25 years.  \n\n
 Typically\, the Parent Group\, Youth Group (ages 11-18)\, and child activi
 ties (ages 2-10) take place concurrently. Due to the current social distan
 cing recommendations\, the groups will take place virtually and on separat
 e dates and times. Please look at the website program calendar for the nex
 t scheduled Youth/Teen Group.\n\nCertificates of Attendance are also avail
