X-WR-CALDESC:General Discussion Meetings provide a safe place where people
can share their feelings and experiences\, get support from their peers\,
and learn from others’ perspectives. The meetings have an open discussion
format and are attended by anyone with a connection to adoption or foster
 care\, including adult adoptees\, birth parents\, siblings\, and adoptive
parents\, those that have experienced foster or kinship care\, or DNA disc
overies such as misattributed parentage or donor conception. Professionals
are also welcome to come and learn from the shared perspectives of the co
nstellation members.\n\nWhile most of our General Discussion Meetings have
an open discussion format\, the July 21 meeting will have a special topic
\, 'Rejection & Moving Beyond It.' Rejection is a core issue of adoption.
Adoptive parents might feel rejected by their own families for their choic
e to adopt or might feel rejected if their adopted son or daughter express
es interest in birth family. Birth parents might feel rejected by their fa
milies for the pregnancy or for not parenting. Adoptees might see their pl
acement as a rejection from the birth family. Searching for someone who is
disconnected through adoption might uncover someone who is not ready to b
e found. Rejection and the fear of rejection can influence in profound way
 s. Join us as we discuss the impact of rejection and explore ways to move
beyond it. Space is limited to maintain the ability of those registered to
participate in the discussion. Our special topic meetings are very popula
r and frequently have a waiting list. \n\nWhy are these groups needed?\n\n
We believe adoption is a complex\, lifelong\, and intergenerational journe
y for all those whose lives are impacted by it. These meetings connect and
empower individuals impacted by adoption\, kinship\, foster care\, and DN
A Discoveries and provide a source of healing\, understanding\, and learni
ng. Recognizing that a unified voice is a strong voice\, we advocate for t
ruth and honesty on behalf of adoptees\, who wonder where they came from a
nd why they were placed for adoption\; for birth families\, who have never
forgotten the child\; and for adoptive families\, who deserve to have the
ir questions addressed honestly. We recognize that everyone has a right to
know their genetic history. By bringing these groups together\, we learn
from the experiences of each other and have the opportunity to explore and
process our own journeys.\n\nWhat is the scope of this group?\n\nThis pee
r discussion and support group is not meant to replace conventional therap
y\, but rather serve as additional support on your personal journey to int
egrate your experience. The focus of this group is the emotional aspects o
f our journeys. For those involved in the process of search\, one on one g
uidance and support as well as technical expertise and assistance are avai
lable through our Search & DNA Assistance Program.\n\nMeeting Information
\n\nThese are virtual meetings led by trained\, volunteer facilitators usi
ng the Zoom platform (which can be accessed through a home computer/laptop
\, tablet\, or mobile phone) and will require an internet connection or ph
one data connection. Pre-registration is required and can be completed by
finding the link for the meeting on our calendar and following the prompts
for registration. There are five opportunities to participate in a meetin
g each month. Dates and times can be found on our calendar: https://www.ad
