X-WR-CALDESC:Special Topic: Are Adoption Trauma and Neurodivergent Symptoms
Linked?\nHave you been given an ADHD or other Neurodivergent diagnosis? H
ave you even wondered if this was linked to your adoption trauma? The work
of authors such as Gabor Mate' suggest they are linked. Other studies rep
ort a link between chronic illness in the adult adoptee population and the
ir next generation.\n\nWe don't have all the answers\, but if this topic r
elates to you please join the conversation. Together we can help each othe
r see ourselves more clearly and learn how to navigate the journey.\n\nGen
eral Discussion Meetings provide a safe place where people can share their
feelings and experiences\, get support from their peers\, and learn from
others’ perspectives. The meetings have an open discussion format and are
attended by anyone with a connection to adoption or foster care\, includin
 g adult adoptees\, birth parents\, siblings\, and adoptive parents\, those
that have experienced foster or kinship care\, or DNA discoveries such as
misattributed parentage or donor conception. Professionals are also welco
me to come and learn from the shared perspectives of the constellation mem
bers.\n\nWhy are these groups needed?\n\nWe believe adoption is a complex\
, lifelong\, and intergenerational journey for all those whose lives are i
mpacted by it. These meetings connect and empower individuals impacted by
adoption\, kinship\, foster care\, and DNA Discoveries and provide a sourc
e of healing\, understanding\, and learning. Recognizing that a unified vo
ice is a strong voice\, we advocate for truth and honesty on behalf of ado
ptees\, who wonder where they came from and why they were placed for adopt
ion\; for birth families\, who have never forgotten the child\; and for ad
optive families\, who deserve to have their questions addressed honestly.
We recognize that everyone has a right to know their genetic history. By b
ringing these groups together\, we learn from the experiences of each othe
r and have the opportunity to explore and process our own journeys.\n\nWha
t is the scope of this group?\n\nThis peer discussion and support group is
not meant to replace conventional therapy\, but rather serve as additiona
l support on your personal journey to integrate your experience. The focus
of this group is the emotional aspects of our journeys. For those involve
d in the process of search\, one on one guidance and support as well as te
chnical expertise and assistance are available through our Search & DNA As
sistance Program.\n\nMeeting Information\n\nThese are virtual meetings led
by trained\, volunteer facilitators using the Zoom platform (which can be
accessed through a home computer/laptop\, tablet\, or mobile phone) and w
ill require an internet connection or phone data connection. Pre-registrat
ion is required and can be completed by finding the link for the meeting o
n our calendar and following the prompts for registration. There are five
opportunities to participate in a meeting each month. Dates and times can
