X-WR-CALDESC:Have you ever considered that adoption-related themes show up
in your dreams? Learn about the world of dreams and explore basic tools an
d techniques for connecting with your dreams meaningfully. Victoria Vlach
will moderate this special topic session. \n\nAbout Victoria\nWith a life
long interest in dream exploration\, Victoria Vlach has facilitated inform
al dream groups and offered dream-related workshops and presentations for
over three decades. Victoria has been a periodic contributor to Dream Netw
ork Journal and founded and facilitated Austin Dreams Meetup from 2006 unt
il 2013. Victoria is a birthmother whose son found her via Ancestry DNA in
January 2023\, and they have been getting to know one another since then.
\n\nAbout General Discussion Meetings\nGeneral Discussion Meetings provide
a safe place where people can share their feelings and experiences\, get
support from their peers\, and learn from others’ perspectives. The meetin
gs have an open discussion format and are attended by anyone with a connec
tion to adoption or foster care\, including adult adoptees\, birth parents
\, siblings\, and adoptive parents\, those that have experienced foster or
kinship care\, or DNA discoveries such as misattributed parentage or dono
r conception. Professionals are also welcome to come and learn from the sh
ared perspectives of the constellation members.\n\nNote: Beginning in Apri
l 2023\, this virtual general discussion group moved its meeting day from
the second Wednesday to the the Thursday of each month.\n\nWhy are these g
roups needed?\n\nWe believe adoption is a complex\, lifelong\, and interge
nerational journey for all those whose lives are impacted by it. These mee
tings connect and empower individuals impacted by adoption\, kinship\, fos
ter care\, and DNA Discoveries and provide a source of healing\, understan
ding\, and learning. Recognizing that a unified voice is a strong voice\,
we advocate for truth and honesty on behalf of adoptees\, who wonder where
they came from and why they were placed for adoption\; for birth families
\, who have never forgotten the child\; and for adoptive families\, who de
serve to have their questions addressed honestly. We recognize that everyo
ne has a right to know their genetic history. By bringing these groups tog
ether\, we learn from the experiences of each other and have the opportuni
ty to explore and process our own journeys.\n\nWhat is the scope of this g
roup?\n\nThis peer discussion and support group is not meant to replace co
nventional therapy\, but rather serve as additional support on your person
al journey to integrate your experience. The focus of this group is the em
otional aspects of our journeys. For those involved in the process of sear
ch\, one on one guidance and support as well as technical expertise and as
sistance are available through our Search & DNA Assistance Program.\n\nMee
ting Information\n\nThese are virtual meetings led by trained\, volunteer
facilitators using the Zoom platform (which can be accessed through a home
computer/laptop\, tablet\, or mobile phone) and will require an internet
connection or phone data connection. Pre-registration is required and can
be completed by finding the link for the meeting on our calendar and follo
wing the prompts for registration. There are five opportunities to partici
pate in a meeting each month. Dates and times can be found on our calendar
