X-WR-CALDESC:Identity is a fundamental part of the adoption experience\, sh
aping the lives of all members of the adoption constellation. Together\, w
e will explore how identity evolves throughout our individual journeys and
influences our sense of belonging and self-understanding. By sharing our
stories and insights\, we can deepen our understanding of one another and
ourselves. \n\nGeneral Discussion Meetings provide a safe place where peop
le can share their feelings and experiences\, get support from their peers
\, and learn from others’ perspectives. The meetings have an open discussi
on format and are attended by anyone with a connection to adoption or fost
er care\, including adult adoptees\, birth parents\, siblings\, and adopti
ve parents\, those that have experienced foster or kinship care\, or DNA d
iscoveries such as misattributed parentage or donor conception. Profession
als are also welcome to come and learn from the shared perspectives of the
constellation members.\n\nNote: Beginning in April 2023\, this virtual ge
neral discussion group moved its meeting day from the second Wednesday to
the the Thursday of each month.\n\nWhy are these groups needed?\n\nWe beli
eve adoption is a complex\, lifelong\, and intergenerational journey for a
ll those whose lives are impacted by it. These meetings connect and empowe
r individuals impacted by adoption\, kinship\, foster care\, and DNA Disco
veries and provide a source of healing\, understanding\, and learning. Rec
ognizing that a unified voice is a strong voice\, we advocate for truth an
d honesty on behalf of adoptees\, who wonder where they came from and why
they were placed for adoption\; for birth families\, who have never forgot
ten the child\; and for adoptive families\, who deserve to have their ques
tions addressed honestly. We recognize that everyone has a right to know t
heir genetic history. By bringing these groups together\, we learn from th
e experiences of each other and have the opportunity to explore and proces
s our own journeys.\n\nWhat is the scope of this group?\n\nThis peer discu
ssion and support group is not meant to replace conventional therapy\, but
rather serve as additional support on your personal journey to integrate
your experience. The focus of this group is the emotional aspects of our j
ourneys. For those involved in the process of search\, one on one guidance
and support as well as technical expertise and assistance are available t
hrough our Search & DNA Assistance Program.\n\nMeeting Information\n\nThes
e are virtual meetings led by trained\, volunteer facilitators using the Z
oom platform (which can be accessed through a home computer/laptop\, table
t\, or mobile phone) and will require an internet connection or phone data
connection. Pre-registration is required and can be completed by finding
the link for the meeting on our calendar and following the prompts for reg
