X-WR-CALDESC:Searching for birth family can bring hope\, fear\, grief\, and
everything in between. This in person special topic meeting will focus on
the emotional aspects of the search process including how to prepare your
self before searching\, what to expect when making contact\, and how to na
vigate the complex feelings that can arise during reunion\, ongoing relati
onships\, or rejection. Reflect\, share\, and gain support around the emot
ional realities of searching\, wherever you are in the journey.\n\nAbout t
he group:\nIn-Person Special Topic Meetings provide a safe place where peo
ple can share their feelings and experiences\, get support from their peer
s\, and learn from others’ perspectives. The meetings are attended by anyo
ne with a connection to adoption or foster care\, including adult adoptees
\, birth parents\, siblings\, and adoptive parents\, those that have exper
ienced foster or kinship care\, or DNA discoveries such as misattributed p
arentage or donor conception. Professionals are also welcome to come and l
earn from the shared perspectives of the constellation members.\n\nWhy are
  these groups needed?\nWe believe adoption is a complex\, lifelong\, and i
ntergenerational journey for all those whose lives are impacted by it. The
se meetings connect and empower individuals impacted by adoption\, kinship
\, foster care\, and DNA Discoveries and provide a source of healing\, und
erstanding\, and learning. Recognizing that a unified voice is a strong vo
ice\, we advocate for truth and honesty on behalf of adoptees\, who wonder
where they came from and why they were placed for adoption\; for birth fa
milies\, who have never forgotten the child\; and for adoptive families\,
who deserve to have their questions addressed honestly. We recognize that
everyone has a right to know their genetic history. By bringing these grou
ps together\, we learn from the experiences of each other and have the opp
ortunity to explore and process our own journeys.\n\nWhat is the scope of
this group?\nThis peer discussion and support group is not meant to replac
e conventional therapy but rather serves as additional support on your per
sonal journey to integrate your experience. This group focuses on the emot
ional aspects of our journeys. For those involved in the process of search
\, one on one guidance and support as well as technical expertise and assi
stance are available through our Search & DNA Assistance Program.\n
