X-WR-CALDESC:Join Kim and Denice to explore how adoption shapes our sense o
f identity and our experiences of attachment. We will examine relationship
s\, belonging\, and connection across the adoption constellation\, honorin
g diverse stories and perspectives. All are welcome to listen\, share\, an
d connect at their own pace in a supportive\, compassionate community.\n\n
General Discussion Support Groups and Special Topic Meetings provide a saf
e place where people can share their feelings and experiences\, get suppor
t from their peers\, and learn from others’ perspectives. The meetings hav
e an open discussion format and are attended by anyone with a connection t
o adoption or foster care\, including adult adoptees\, birth parents\, sib
lings\, and adoptive parents\, those that have experienced foster or kinsh
ip care\, or DNA discoveries such as misattributed parentage or donor conc
eption. Professionals are also welcome to come and learn from the shared p
erspectives of the constellation members.\n\nWhy are these groups needed?
\nWe believe adoption is a complex\, lifelong\, and intergenerational jour
ney for all those whose lives are impacted by it. These meetings connect a
nd empower individuals impacted by adoption\, kinship\, foster care\, and
DNA Discoveries and provide a source of healing\, understanding\, and lear
ning. Recognizing that a unified voice is a strong voice\, we advocate for
truth and honesty on behalf of adoptees\, who wonder where they came from
and why they were placed for adoption\; for birth families\, who have nev
er forgotten the child\; and for adoptive families\, who deserve to have t
heir questions addressed honestly. We recognize that everyone has a right
to know their genetic history. By bringing these groups together\, we lear
n from the experiences of each other and have the opportunity to explore a
nd process our own journeys.\n\nWhat is the scope of this group?\nThis pee
r discussion and support group is not meant to replace conventional therap
y\, but rather serve as additional support on your personal journey to int
egrate your experience. The focus of this group is the emotional aspects o
f our journeys. For those involved in the process of search\, one on one g
uidance and support as well as technical expertise and assistance are avai
lable through our Search & DNA Assistance Program.\n\nMeeting Information
