X-WR-CALDESC:Please join us for our monthly DNA Discovery Support Group as
we welcome special guest Aaron Long who will be discussing his story and t
he documentary film Dad Genes. \n\nAbout the film:\nFor years\, Aaron Long
was a happily unmarried man living a single life in Seattle. That all cha
nged practically overnight thanks to a 21st-century combination of old-fas
hioned curiosity and cutting-edge technology.\nBack in the mid-90s during
his carefree twenties\, Aaron had been a sperm donor as an easy way to mak
e some extra cash\, earning “forty dollars a pop” for each donation. Over
two decades later\, he registers with a DNA-based ancestry site and soon d
iscovers he has several known children\, with speculative math suggesting
there may be more than 60 others out there.\n\nAaron invites several of hi
s newly discovered children to spend time with him at a “Meet My Kids” par
ty and not long after\, two of the children\, the mother of one\, and Aaro
n’s own aging mother are all living in the same bohemian Seattle co-op\; t
hree generations of genetically related strangers building a family from s
cratch.\nAfter Aaron shares his saga with The New York Times\, the unlikel
y clan experiences growing media exposure and diminishing privacy. And the
more his story spreads — the bigger and more complicated it grows.\n\nDad
Genes tells a new kind of story\, one that would not even have been conce
ivable until very recently. In looking closely at one non-traditional fami
ly — led by a man who never particularly wanted one — we get a fresh persp
ective on what family means in the 21st century.\n\nAaron Long is a recent
ly retired non-profit fund developer\, musician\, and writer. He lives on
Vashon Island\, Washington\, with his wife Jessica\, their daughter Alice
 \, 3 cats and 6 chickens. \n\nMeeting Information:\nThis meeting is a virt
ual meeting led by trained\, volunteer facilitators Oliver and M.C.\, held
on the first Tuesday of every month from 8-10 pm ET. The meeting is held
via the Zoom platform (which can be accessed through a home computer/lapto
