X-WR-CALDESC:About this Special Topic Meeting\n'The story of adoption is a
ghost story\, full of fantasy\, mystery\, and missing persons… If you real
ly want to see an adoptee\, you have to see their ghosts'. – Betty Jean Li
fton\, Ph.D\n\nPlease join JJ and Rosemary on November 5th for a special t
opic meeting on what Betty Jean Lifton\, Ph.D coined The Ghost Kingdom. We
'll talk about what the ghost kingdom is\, how it affects all members of t
he adoption constellation\, and we'll make space for attendees to share th
eir own experiences with their ghost kingdoms\n\n\nAbout General Discussio
n Meetings \nThese virtual gatherings provide a safe place where people ca
n share their feelings and experiences\, get support from their peers\, an
d learn from others’ perspectives. The meetings have an open discussion fo
rmat and are attended by anyone with a connection to adoption or foster ca
re\, including adult adoptees\, birth parents\, siblings\, and adoptive pa
rents\, those that have experienced foster or kinship care\, or DNA discov
eries such as misattributed parentage or donor conception. Professionals a
re also welcome to come and learn from the shared perspectives of the cons
tellation members.\n\nWe believe adoption is a complex\, lifelong\, and in
tergenerational journey for all those whose lives are impacted by it. Thes
e meetings connect and empower individuals impacted by adoption\, kinship\
, foster care\, and DNA Discoveries and provide a source of healing\, unde
rstanding\, and learning. Recognizing that a unified voice is a strong voi
ce\, we advocate for truth and honesty on behalf of adoptees\, who wonder
where they came from and why they were placed for adoption\; for birth fam
ilies\, who have never forgotten the child\; and for adoptive families\, w
ho deserve to have their questions addressed honestly. We recognize that e
veryone has a right to know their genetic history. By bringing these group
s together\, we learn from the experiences of each other and have the oppo
rtunity to explore and process our own journeys.\n\nGroup's Scope\nThis pe
er discussion and support group is not meant to replace conventional thera
py\, but rather serve as additional support on your personal journey to in
tegrate your experience. The focus of this group is the emotional aspects
of our journeys. For those involved in the process of search\, one on one
guidance and support as well as technical expertise and assistance are ava
ilable through our Search & DNA Assistance Program.\n\nMeeting Information
\nThese are virtual meetings led by trained\, volunteer facilitators using
the Zoom platform (which can be accessed through a home computer/laptop\,
tablet\, or mobile phone) and will require an internet connection or phon
e data connection. Pre-registration is required and can be completed by fi
