Sarah spent the first few decades of her career managing small businesses and serving in supporting roles in a community-based nonprofit before deciding she wanted to shift her attention to the nonprofit world exclusively. After she received some (absolutely excellent) advice from friends to pursue a Social Work Master’s, she realized while in the classroom that so many of her natural strategies and professional inclinations were rooted in Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), a strengths-based framework that shifts mindsets away from “problems” to reframe them as “opportunities.” Sarah takes a people-first approach to her work, empowering the community she serves and the team around her to shine. She specializes in relationship-building and organizational storytelling, all in service to meaningful fundraising efforts that support continued excellence in programming and services.
Sarah has a BA in English from Kent State University, an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College (Boston, MA), and an MSSA* from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Science at Case Western Reserve University. She is a licensed social worker in the State of Ohio and a 200-Hour RYT (registered yoga teacher) – though she jokes that she is “retired” from teaching yoga. Additionally, she is an adjunct professor at the Mandel School.
Sarah’s personal values statement is “Transparency builds trust, kindness is a must.”
